Haneolnuri Co., Ltd.'s innovative ‘solar street light’, Opening a new paradigm in the domestic solar street lighting market
Minimize investment costs and maximize battery life!!
Convenient monitoring function, thorough management, convenience and stability are secured.
The government announced the '2050 Carbon Neutral Promotion Strategy' early this year, which aims to reduce net carbon emissions to zero by 2050, and the Ministry of Science and ICT is planning R&D next year to improve energy efficiency and develop renewable energy to support the realization of this strategy. The budget was expanded. Looking at the details, the most prominent item is the provision of 7.2 billion won for the development of energy efficiency technologies such as information and communication technology (ICT), building energy efficiency systems, and integrated energy resource management networks (smart grids) to generate conventional power with less carbon consumption. Eco-friendly energy, eco-friendly cities, and eco-friendly cars are the three core elements of the Korean Green New Deal, and at the center is eco-friendly energy development without carbon emissions.
The representative eco-friendly energy is solar! The government's investment in solar power facilities is expected to increase significantly. Considering the target solar power installation by 2025, solar power generation is expected to increase by an average of 6GW per year. The government does not stop at this, but is drawing a big picture of converting urban/living infrastructure to green through the Green New Deal project and building a smart green city applying the 4th industry and New Deal project. In the meantime, the "independent solar streetlight", which was recently introduced by Haneolnuri Co., Ltd.,(CEO Kwon Taek-jo), a solar power generation company in Korea, is receiving a lot of attention from officials as it is evaluated as the best product for building a future eco-friendly smart city.
Complementing the problems of solar streetlight batteries according to the domestic situation and improving their performance
Existing solar street lights lack battery protection technology and do not have reasonable battery capacity settings, causing performance degradation and non-lighting problems due to repeated full discharge of the battery. In the case of solar street lights, as they use a general-purpose charge controller, they are not optimized for the solar panel, type of battery, and capacity of the LED lamp, and the quality of the product deteriorates due to the low price policy and the street lights do not turn on due to early discharge. Problems are continuously occurring. Taekjo Kwon, CEO of Haneolnuri Co., Ltd., a solar power company, said, “Solar street lights must use energy very efficiently because they are in an environment where the energy stored in the battery must be used in a limited manner. However, in most currently installed solar street lights, the lifespan of the street lights is reduced due to inefficient use. “The problem is serious, and unfortunately, this is the reality of solar street lights in Korea.”
Haneolnuri’s solar street lights equipped with artificial intelligence technology (AI) can extend the life of the battery as much as possible.
Haneolnuri Co., Ltd.,s solar streetlights track the maximum efficiency of solar panels according to current weather conditions by combining program control technology optimized for battery capacity, LED lamp capacity, and solar panel performance with AI (artificial intelligence) technology. This charges the battery with maximum power.
The power generated from solar panels varies from moment to moment depending on the angle of the sun and the degree of clouds, and the maximum strategic amount varies depending on the changes. Therefore, tracking maximum power can be said to be essential for solar power generation. Haneulnuri Co., Ltd.'s proprietary patented controller tracks the maximum amount of power in a 0.5sec cycle and delivers the ever-changing maximum amount of power to the battery. In addition, LED lamps are controlled using a 50kHz PWM method to accurately transmit power to each lamp, and adjust illuminance depending on the situation to minimize battery consumption. This function prevents complete discharge of the battery, prevents non-lighting problems in advance, and extends the life of the battery as much as possible.
Secure safety by using lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO4)'
Another big advantage is that Haneolnuri Co., Ltd. uses ‘lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO4)’, which are not commonly used in streetlights. Generally, about 70% of batteries used in solar street lights are PB (lead) batteries, and it is extremely rare to use LiFePO4 lithium iron phosphate batteries. Lithium iron phosphate has the disadvantage of being slightly larger in volume than lithium ion. However, iron phosphate batteries have excellent stability and low fire rates, making them ideal for installation in parks or residential areas. In addition, its discharge characteristics are far superior to those of existing batteries, and it has excellent protection against battery capacity degradation due to charging and discharging. The advantage of iron phosphate batteries is that they significantly extend the lifespan of solar street lights, making them very suitable for solar street lights.
Minimize power loss by omitting the power conversion process
Solar panels produce direct current (DC) power. The produced DC is converted into power and stored depending on the type of battery. Then, the power stored in the battery is converted to AC (alternating current) and converted back to DC in the LED lamp to light. Simply put, power is converted from DC -> AC -> DC. Losses occur in the conversion of power. This unnecessary conversion of power results in wasting precious power.
However, Haneolnuri Co., Ltd. uses a DC direct control LED lamp, which transmits the power stored in the battery directly to the LED to light it, so there is no power loss due to unnecessary power conversion. CEO Kwon Taek-jo stated, “We applied independently developed technology to make the best use of the power charged in the limited battery, prevent abnormalities such as non-lighting, and protect the battery to extend its life as much as possible.”
Maximize convenience and efficiency by establishing a ‘remote control and real-time monitoring system for street lights’
Haneul Nuri Co., Ltd.'s solar street lights not only secure hardware stability and durability, but are also equipped with various unique functions that allow managers to manage them more efficiently and conveniently. Representative Kwon said, “When proceeding with the installation of solar street lights and consulting with local government officials, who are the main users, their biggest difficulty is that the method of checking whether the solar street lights are operating properly is very inconvenient. Most solar street lights are installed in remote locations where staff cannot easily reach them. Therefore, since it is not possible to visit the site frequently to check, the only way was to receive complaints from nearby residents or have a person in charge periodically visit and visually check,” he said, pointing out the fundamental problem in the management aspect of solar street lights.
To solve these problems, CEO Kwon established a monitoring system that can check the status of solar street lights in real time. Administrators can check the status of streetlights in real time at any time, and even check the amount of electricity bill reduction and carbon dioxide reduction due to power saving effects such as power generation and discharge amount in real time. Since bidirectional control is possible here, the status of solar street lights can be easily changed from abnormal to normal with a simple operation such as reset. Ultimately, there is no need for unnecessary on-site visits by the person in charge.
Develop technology to understand the surrounding conditions of solar street lights and use the necessary power at the right location.
Over the past few years, solar power generation projects have been focused on large-scale power plants, factories, and houses, and recently the government has been expanding and distributing power generation facilities wherever possible, even looking for small scraps of land such as on roads, tunnels, and rest areas. Solar power plants are being installed in leftover land along highways. This may be a natural choice due to the characteristics of Korea, which has a small area and many mountains. However, local residents and environmental groups continue to raise complaints and voices of opposition for reasons such as poor aesthetics and environmental destruction. However, while the government is suffering from severe headaches due to lack of a suitable alternative solution, related industry experts are evaluating Haneolnuri Co., Ltd.'s solar street lights as an innovative system that can solve these problems at once.
Haneolnuri Co., Ltd. plans to continue to create more convenient and stable products through continuous research and development. It is developing a technology that identifies the surrounding conditions of solar streetlights (peripheral illumination, presence of objects, human body detection, etc.), reduces the power to be used when it is not necessary, and increases the power to use it in the right place if necessary.
Korea, which is changing into a tropical night climate, will also develop solar technology in line with this.
The goal is to become a leader in the future energy industry.
Due to recent warming, Korea's climate has changed into a tropical climate, and the rainy season, the biggest characteristic of a tropical climate, is occurring. Accordingly, a long rainy season of about two weeks has arrived in 2021. Accordingly, Haneolnuri Co., Ltd. is planning a hybrid solar street light that combines a small wind power generator with a solar street light. Through this, we plan to supply streetlights suitable for our country's climate, where the number of days on relief is getting longer. In addition, there are plans to distribute solar street lights not only to developing countries in Southeast Asia but also to countries around the world. To this end, we are seeking to expand overseas from various angles by participating in KOTRA's online exhibition hall and conducting non-face-to-face business matching with various countries. Currently, we are receiving many inquiries from overseas. More detailed business information of Haneolnuri Co., Ltd. can be found on the website.
Lastly, CEO Kwon Taek-jo said, “We started in the electrical construction business and then jumped into the renewable energy business. Our goal is to become a leader in the future energy industry. Solar street lights can illuminate any place where the sun rises, no matter how rugged or remote. “I want to become a company that shines bright light everywhere in the world,” he said. This magazine also sends a message of support to the future of Haneolnuri Co., Ltd., which is creating a bright and powerful future.
